Location
The Juniper Tree, Chiang Mai is situated in a secluded area near the city centre. It is located about 10-15 minutes drive from the International Airport and 5 to 10 minutes from the railway station and city centre. (Click here for map). There is a 9 hole golf course within walking distance and it’s just a short taxi ride to banks, travel agents, supermarkets and shopping malls, as well as Chiang Mai’s famous Night Market.
Accommodation
We can accommodate up to 80 people in our 34 bedrooms. The accommodation is in 17 wooden traditional Thai-style houses set in attractive gardens. Each house is made up of 1 or more bedrooms and some have connecting rooms.
Each room has air-conditioning, ensuite hot water shower and western-style toilet, plus telephone and email facilities (if you have your own computer). Bed linen and towels are provided.
Please note:
• We aim to keep our running expenses as low as possible and consequently our rooms are comfortable but not luxurious.
• Due to our need to accommodate the maximum number of people, we cannot guarantee a particular room or house.
Meals
We have a large dining room serving 3 meals per day. Many guests enjoy the opportunity for fellowship that meal times provide. Some meals give you a taste of Thai cuisine, others are Western favourites.
Although we run on a full-board basis, it is possible to sign out of some meals to enable you to take trips further away, or sample some of Chiang Mai’s plentiful restaurants.

What can I do in Chiang Mai?
• Day trips
Chiang Mai is a popular tourist destination. There are endless possibilities regarding types of trekking and other trips, from visits to hill tribes, bungy jumping, white-water rafting, elephant trips, zoo, hot springs, waterfalls, butterfly, orchid and snake farms, to name but a few! Thailand’s tallest mountain is just 2 hours away and longer trips can be made to the Golden Triangle -the Lao/Thai/Myanmar border area.
• Shopping & Entertainment
As well as several western-style large superstores and shopping malls, Chiang Mai has many day markets and a popular night market. Many guests enjoy trips to cottage industry projects to watch local handicrafts such as paper, silk and pottery being made.
Bowling, mini-golf, go-karting and movie theaters are some of the other entertainment options.

Chiang Mai has a number of International standard hospitals and dentists as well as Christian counseling facilities.

What about the weather?
Although Chiang Mai is hot most of the year (expect temperatures in the 25 to 35C range), being in the North, the climate can be pleasantly cool especially during the months of November through to late February. During these months day-time temperatures would normally be in the 20 to 30C range with night-time temperatures being much lower.
The hottest months of the year are March to May. The rainy season lasts from June to October. The normal pattern for rainfall is occasional heavy showers rather than persistent rain lasting for days.
What do you charge?
As a foundation, we do not charge board at commercial rates. However, we do rely on donations from guests to cover the costs of our running expenses. For details of our minimum recommended donations, please e-mail us at juniper2@loxinfo.co.th As from October 2007, we can accept Visa or Mastercard.
Do you take groups?
Our primary purpose is to offer a place of rest/relaxation/retreat for individuals and families. However, during quieter seasons we can accommodate groups. The large lounge/conference room can accommodate up to 50 people. Please contact us for more information.
How do I get there?
By air
Chiang Mai has an International airport with direct flights to several Asian countries. There are at least 5 airlines offering daily flights from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai takes about 1 hour.
By rail
There are several trains per day from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The journey takes 12 to 14 hours depending on the type of train. The most comfortable option is to take seats in an overnight 2nd class air-conditioned (or fan if you prefer) sleeper carriage.
By bus
You can take an air-conditioned bus from the Northern Bus station in Bangkok, called 'Talaad Mor Chit' Bus station. This is the cheapest and most risky method of travel – it takes about 7-8 hours either day time or night time.
When You arrive in Chiang Mai
Take a taxi to The Juniper Tree. If the taxi driver does not know The Juniper Tree, ask for “The Holiday Resort”, the former name. It is located just off the Chiang Mai-Lampoon Road, close to the Gymkhana Golf Course and near a temple called Wad Muang Gai.
From the bus or train station, you should always agree the price before travelling.
From the airport, you can buy a ticket from the desk inside the airport building. The price is fixed, but if several of you are travelling together with a lot of luggage, you may need more than one car.

Driving to The Juniper Tree
From Bangkok come into Chiang Mai on the Super Highway (Highway 11) . You will go past the Big C Shopping Center far to your right. At the next traffic lights which are sign-posted to Chiang Mai going left and Sankampeng to the right, turn left ( at these lights you can see the Makro store in front of you to the right). Continue heading into the centre of Chiang Mai until you get to the train station. There are traffic lights here. Turn left onto the road that runs alongside the station keeping the railway line on your left. This road is called Thanon Rot Fai. After about 1/2 a kilometer, the road bends to the right, follow this road until you come to a temple (Wat Muang Gai) on the right, here you turn left into Soi 6. You will now have the golf course on your right. Stay on this road and after a few bends in the road, you will arrive at The Juniper Tree.
